The proposed budget, announced by Latimer on Tuesday, Oct. 17, includes investments in affordable housing, infrastructure for electric vehicles, parkway rehabilitation, bridges, roads, and flood mitigation.
The budget will now be reviewed by the Westchester Board of Legislators.
"Our 2024 Capital Budget, the sixth of its kind under our stewardship, paves the way for a brighter tomorrow. With investments in affordable housing, electric vehicles, and critical infrastructure, we are forging a path toward a more inclusive and environmentally conscious future,” Latimer said of his proposed budget.
The appropriations requested in the budget include:
- $301.6 million for general county purposes;
- $160 million for the Refuse, Sewer, and Water districts.
According to county officials, $50 million would go toward land acquisition and infrastructure improvements to support affordable housing development, while another $50 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds would be included in the Affordable Housing Investment Fund and go toward the development of workforce housing.
Another $20 million would pay for electric vehicle charging infrastructure at county and municipal locations; $25 million would find County Center improvements; and $6.93 million would go toward Bronx River Pathway improvements.
Several roadways, bridges, and parkways in Westchester would also see funds allocated for improvements, including $19 million for the rehabilitation of the Bronx River Parkway, $3.5 million for the Tuckahoe Road bridge in Yonkers, and $4 million for Old Mamaroneck Road in White Plains.
Much of the budget would also be allocated toward sewer and water districts, including $17 million for the North Yonkers Sewer District pumping station rehabilitation and $20 million for structural rehabilitation at the Ossining Water Resource Recovery Facility.
